Do We Need PDAs?

PDA
Peter Owen asked:

Having an address book and planner has become a thing of the past. With todays PDAs you dont need that at all. PDAs are putting your office in your pocket. You can manage your contacts and meetings, send and receive emails, listen to music, play games and movies, write professional documents, take photos and connect to the internet. PDAs were originally called Palm Pilots. They mainly used it for storing information. Today it is just as good as a laptop.

PDAs also have its limitations. Inputting information is done by handwriting or by a miniature keyboard. The speed of inputting information is far less than a normal laptop or desktop. It usually takes double the time to type an email than on a laptop. The battery power also isnt that great comparing to the new laptops especially if it has a color screen. The applications you can use are slightly inferior to the application used on normal computers. The reason for that is because the user has less control over the program.

Despite these limitations, PDAs are getting more popular and better every year. People need them to do their computing on the go. You dont want to carry a laptop everywhere but having a PDA in your pocket is no fuss. The most common use for PDAs are word processing, database management, banking, setting up spreadsheets for data and also for the occasional game. A very important tool is being able to synchronize the files on you PDA with the files on your computer. It is hard work to keep things like emails synchronized with your computer if you dont use that function.

Two of the well known PDA suppliers are Palm and Microsofts Windows Mobile device. The Palm Pilot was the first PDA and they also managed to keep up with technology and produced amazing devices. People have different opinions of which one they prefer. Windows Mobile runs on an operating system similar to Windows on normal computers and because of that many people prefer the similarities. Others feel that the Windows Mobile device is difficult to navigate in comparison to the Palm.

There are many great PDAs around today but one thing that is very important is to make sure that the applications you are using on your normal computer or laptop is compatible with the applications on your PDA. Take time to test some of the models available. The handwriting recognition PDAs are difficult to get used to but when you do it is really fun. Ive also spoke to users who said that they could never really get used to it. So if you are a slow learner it might be better to stick with the keyboard. My advice will be if you are going to use it mainly for email, then getting one with a keyboard is a safe bet.

What is the most recommended PDA for a nurse?

PDA
PJ asked:

I am a nurse planning to purchase a PDA to aid me in my profession. I would like it to be compatible with various softwares designed to aid nurses at work (drug guide, nursing diagnoses, etc..). I also would like it to work efficiently and be hassle-free, since most nurses really hate to be wasting time resetting it over and over. And lastly, I hope it has a generous memory to put mp3 files for me to listen to during breaks. I have been wrecking my head browsing over the internet for advice, but I think a nurse or someone in the medical profession can give me the best advice. thanks in advance!
… oh, and it has to be the latest model available, if that’s possible… :)

Do You Know The Major Differences Between Laptops And PDAs?

PDA
Gregg Hall asked:

A PDA and a laptop computer share many of the same features, yet they are quite different. A PDA is outstanding for its light weight and portability. The laptop is portable, but is heavier and somewhat more cumbersome. If you are looking to buy a PDA or a laptop, it makes sense to compare the two to determine just what you need.

A PDA is lightweight, more so than the laptop. While you can take the laptop to a class with you, it is harder to carry. You can put the PDA in a pocket or purse. You have to carry the laptop in a carrier, usually with a shoulder strap.

This makes it more difficult to walk in, gracefully take your place, and begin taking notes. With the laptop, you will have to set it up and go through the process of starting it into the right program. There is less on a PDA to sort through, so the start-up process is much easier. You just turn it on, select the program you want to use and you are ready to go in seconds.

The PDA has much less memory. You might think that buying the laptop is a no-brainer. After all, you want the most memory, right? Actually, there are some advantages to having less memory.

You can download everything from your PDA onto a laptop or other PC very quickly if you need to use the information there. Then, you can start over inputting new data into your PDA. Thus, your PDA is a constant source of new material that can go directly into whatever computer you are using.

Another advantage of the small PDA memory is that you have less to sort through when you want to open a program or look up a file. The laptop holds so many files that it takes awhile to find the one you want and bring it up. So, it is a matter of speed versus volume.

PDAs are the winners when it comes to portable music. No one wants to take out, open up, and ready a laptop just to play a song. Yet, a PDA is so lightweight and easy to carry and operate; people love to pull them out for a little music.

However, if you want to view images on a screen, the laptop is far superior. The screen is larger, so you can see more detail and brighter colors. Your pictures will be seen at their best on a laptop. Besides this, pictures take up a lot of memory. It doesn’t take too many photos to use up the memory in a PDA as compared to a laptop.

The differences between laptops and PDAs are dwindling. Laptops are becoming smaller and their cost is coming down every year. At the same time, PDAs are becoming more powerful, with the ability to do everything from playing computer games to aiding in the medical and educational fields. It is best to get an idea of which you want the most, and then look for a PDA or laptop that meets your needs.

About Pda Cell Phones

PDA
Ian Ball asked:

PDA also referred to as Personal Digital Assistants are digital devices designed to facilitate you in carrying out a wide range of task such as Voice Conversations, Internet Connectivity, Email, Text Messaging and much more. It can at the same time support applications such as calendars and so on.

When you have a PDA feature in your mobile phone you have a whole lot of options in your hand as you can do much more with your mobile phone than just making a phone call or sending messages. PDA mobile phones give you the advantage of a technology that combines the mobile organizational features of a Personal Digital Assistant with the features of a mobile phone to help you in truly multitasking.

It is ideal for business executives or people involved in running of a business enterprise. A PDA cell phone will help them to organize all the information they require, and they don’t need a huge laptop or a PC. They can carry the information with them wherever they do, hassle free because it is all in their handy mobile phone. It allows you to communicate in many different ways with employees, customers, clients, and strategic partners.

You cannot expect a PDA mobile phone to compete with the power of a Desktop PC, but it is a tremendous help for those on the road. They can do lots of activities such as reading their e-mail, taking on-site photos, editing Office documents, listen to music and watching a movie with just their mobile phone.

Interestingly given the significance of PDA’s for professionals, mobile phone manufacturers are increasing the features they offer with PDA mobile phones every time they release a new model. Buying A Rectified PDA – A Cheaper Alterative Then A New One

PDA
Ron Hel-Or asked:

Buying a rectified PDA can be a great alternative for anyone who doesn’t have the funds needed to buy a new one, or doesn’t want to invest these funds in a new device. This option was not widely available a few years, as the PDA market was smaller. But now the market has grown to over 30 million PDA’s sold by the end of 2004.

So the market is now flooded with millions of PDA’s, some of them are looking for new owners.

The options are getting a used PDA, and a rectified PDA. In this article we’ll cover the rectified PDA option and leave the used PDA’s for another time.

To make things clear, a rectified PDA means that the product was returned, repaired, and then sold by the manufacturer or an authorized agent. In many cases, the product you’ll be getting will be as good as new, and it’ll be hard to see that this is not a new PDA.

The rectified PDA will in most case come with some kind of a warranty from the agent or manufacturer. But you must beware that a guarantee that is given on an auction site will in most cases NOT be honored by the manufacturer. So if you’re PDA breaks down after a few weeks, you have to deal with whoever sold it to you.

If you bought the rectified PDA at the manufacturer’s site, you’ll probably have a solid guarantee, so it’s best to look there before you go for the auction site option. The disadvantage here is that the process of rectified PDA’s at the manufacturer’s site are usually not much lower than the new ones, so you don’t gain much form the price perspective.

So the Pro’s for getting a rectified PDA are:

1.Usually has Manufacturer’s warranty – but you’ll need to check if you’re buying form someone who is not the manufacturer.

2.Support after the sale is much more likely to be there than of you buy a used PDA.

3.The PDA looks and acts like new product

4.The rectified PDA is obtainable for better price than new, usually with no loss of features. You may want to check for software upgrades.

And the Con’s for getting a rectified PDA are:

1.Price of a rectified PDA may not be as low as a “used” PDA

2.The manufacturer’s warranty may be no good if bought at auction site. The best thing to do is simply ask the seller, and the manufacturer.

To conclude, buying a rectified PDA is a valid option for people who don’t want to invest the full amount. A little caution will be a good practice during the shopping process.

How to Compare PDA’s

PDA
Ray Andrew asked:

A PDA (personal data assistant) can be an important investment. Price is not the only issue facing a PDA shopper. One must also be concerned with features, as a PDA may become integral to one’s daily life and functioning. As such, before making a final decision, one must first be sure to compare PDA’s carefully.

Any time one is purchasing an electronic item, the popular Latin expression “caveat emptor” should come to mind. The phrase, translated as “buyer beware,” reflects the reality of the marketplace. One cannot trust that any given purchase will truly meet his or her needs or that any product in a category will be satisfactory. The electronics market is littered with sub-par products that are strongly hyped and sold on the strength of misleading or inaccurate marketing. PDA’s are not an exception to this rule. There are many options available, and they are not all of sufficient quality. That is why it is essential to carefully compare PDA’s.

How can one compare PDA’s? The key is identifying multiple possibilities that fit within one’s desired price range and then evaluating their features and qualities carefully to guarantee a satisfying purchase. As much as most of us would like to avoid extensive research and would prefer to simply pick “something” quickly, knowledge is power and a quality strategy to compare PDA’s can go a long way in avoiding disappointment.

One should start by formulating a list of the features they require in a PDA. The importance of each feature should also be noted, as some may be more critical than others. This may seem to be an unnecessary step. However, unless a careful list is constructed, one may overlook a particular PDA’s deficiencies or strengths while shopping. It is also possible to accidentally overlook a desired feature while he or she compares PDA’s—an error often not realized until it is too late. After assembling the feature list, one may then determine their budge for the purchase.

At this point, one should begin the hunt for an objective source of information that provides an in-depth look at the various features and options present in a wide array of PDA’s. Optimally, one will avoid relying upon sources that offer biased perspectives. For instance, a manufacturer’s website will probably do its very best to avoid mentioning areas of weakness, instead focusing on a PDA’s strengths. In order to compare PDA’s accurately, a more factual recitation of attributes is necessary.

One may then begin to compare PDA’s one by one, looking at each model that falls within the desired price range closely and noting which desired qualities it possesses and which it lacks. After assessing the PDA’s, the most clearly desirable candidates should be readily apparent.

Choosing a PDA can be a confusing process. However, by taking an informed and organized approach to finding the model that best meets one’s needs, the matter can be simplified a great deal. If one is willing to compare PDA’s based on a predefined list of desirable characteristics, conducted with budgetary restrictions in mind can help lead to a wonderful buying experience and will result in the purchase of PDA that will perform all necessary functions in a way that makes organization and scheduling a joy. Anyone in the market for these amazing tools simply must make the effort to compare PDA’s before making a purchase.
